A Home that Smiles Back

The Dining Room already featured beautiful natural light, elegant pendant lighting, and a striking black and white wallcovering, but the space still felt like it was missing warmth and energy. In the Living Room, awkward traffic flow, widely spaced furniture, an oversized built-in surrounding the television, a beloved floral reading chair, and a stand-up piano created a layout puzzle that required both creativity and functionality to solve.

Perhaps most importantly, both spaces were craving color.

Approach:

We began in the Dining Room by embracing a gorgeous yellow floral wallcovering the client had purchased but felt hesitant to fully commit to. We encouraged her to lean into it, and from there the entire palette unfolded naturally. To complement the warmth and movement of the floral pattern, we introduced a dramatic high lacquered ceiling in a rich burgundy wine tone, layered in a plum area rug, added beautiful blue buffet lamps, and incorporated original artwork that echoed the colors and botanical elements throughout the room.

In the Living Room, we lightened the built-in cabinetry to help the room feel brighter and less heavy, introduced a large custom sofa upholstered in stain resistant performance fabric for family lounging, and anchored the bay window with draperies, a gorgeous console table, and oversized lamp to create a stronger focal point. A soft pink accent chair was added to balance the client’s cherished floral reading chair, while colorful custom pillows and flexible seating pieces helped make the room feel layered, inviting, and highly livable. Finally, we selected a very subtle tone on tone wallcovering that quietly added texture without competing with all of the more playful elements throughout the space.

Delivery / Result:

The client was over the moon with the thoughtful layers of color, texture, and pattern incorporated throughout the home, while the children were thrilled to finally have a large comfortable sofa where they could gather together and watch television.

Most importantly, these rooms no longer simply “look nice”, they now feel deeply connected to the family who lives there. The result is a home filled with warmth, personality, and spaces designed for both everyday living and meaningful memories.
