That was the philosophy behind this first-floor renovation. Instead of modernizing the home, our goal was to uncover the character it was always meant to have through custom millwork, architectural details, carefully selected finishes, and cohesive furnishings that respect the home’s original style.

A timeless home isn’t defined by today’s trends. It’s defined by thoughtful design decisions that feel authentic to the architecture.
When we begin a renovation, we ask a simple question:
“What would this home have looked like if it had been designed this way from the beginning?”

Instead of removing existing architectural features, we look for opportunities to strengthen them. In this project, we updated the fireplace surrounds, designed a custom built-in for the formal living room inspired by the home’s existing millwork, and added a built-in to the dining room that improves both functionality and architectural balance. The result is a home where the new elements feel original rather than recently added.

During this renovation, one of the biggest challenges was a large soffit running through the casual living room. Rather than trying to hide it, we incorporated it into the design by wrapping it in wood and extending decorative ceiling beams throughout the room. What was once a distracting structural element became an intentional architectural feature that complements the home’s Tudor-inspired style.
Architectural details such as custom millwork, ceiling treatments, built-ins, and fireplace surrounds create depth and personality that cannot be achieved through furnishings alone.

Instead of introducing furniture that looked disconnected from the home, we designed cabinetry that echoed details already found elsewhere in the architecture. This approach helps each room feel balanced while reinforcing the home’s original character.

Throughout the formal living room, we layered furnishings, lighting, rugs, paint colors, and semi-custom draperies to create symmetry, warmth, and comfort while remaining true to the home’s architectural roots. Even the powder room became an opportunity to reinforce the home’s personality through custom cabinetry, wallcovering, tile, and lighting, transforming it into a memorable “jewel box” space.
Every material was selected not because it was trendy, but because it contributed to the overall story of the home.
